shot was fired. During the time I was on duty I did

not see any European or others outside the fence. My

I explain the orders to the sentries and

they understood them.

The alarm is raised by a series of successive blasts

on a whistle and the alarm is taken up by the sentries

heard all round the camp. I has the alarm whistle. I heard

the alarm at 4.55 p.m. I also heard a rifle shot. I

ran out. Then I heard the alarm whistle. The alarm

whistle I heard from No. 1 post. I turned the guard

and with 6 men hurried to the spot. I saw a crowd of

people there. I then heard that a man had been shot:

I did not see the man. I am quite certain of the time.
